Erindale runs along Dundas street west, the centre of the old village is just east of the credit river valley.

Located in Erindale is a large campus of the University of Toronto, known as the University of Toronto Mississauga, which his located on the west bank of the river.

Looking back at the history of Erindale you will find that during the 17th and 18th centuries, French trapper named the river on which Erindale sits as "Riveire du Credit."

As settlement progressed, the Mississauga Indians sold their land. The Credit village developed along Dundas Street, where the main people settling were people from the bustling Town of York, otherwise known as Toronto.

Erindale first came into being in 1822 when Thomas Racey, a land speculator bought the centre block of land to build a mill and establish a village. However, Racey came to a point he was unable to make his payments, and the land was then auctioned off to settlers. By 1827, the village was coming to life through a saw and flour mill, a post office and a new church.

Erindale has had many names throughout its existence; it was first called Toronto, however once the post office was established, the name Credit was chosen.

By the mid 1830s the new name was Springfield, and later on it was known as Springfield on the Credit.

It was not until 1890, the new name of Erindale was chosen after the estate of Reverend James Magrath, an early influential settler.

Erindale is a great neighbourhood within the City of Mississauga, it is in a location that is minutes away from any focal points in the City of Mississauga. It is only a 15 minute drive from the Square One Shopping Centre, an extremely popular mall.

You will also find yourself in an area comprised of many condominiums and lower - upper class housing.

As mentioned before, there are many attractions within Erindale, two notable ones are Erindale Park - a 2221.1 acre park featuring 1 playground and 5 picnic facilities; it is the largest park in Mississauga. Another is the Credit River, which offers opportunities for hiking, canoeing, fishing and more.

With the many natural recreational opportunities and the University of Toronto campus, Erindale is a great place to live for anyone interested in nature or taking their education to the next level.
